I worked for a software test startup for the last year and a half, since “day 1″, through second round funding.
Do you know what “second round funding” is?
You need office space etc as mentioned, you need to pay wages, training, etc. You will need test tools, even if you go open source.
But first and foremost you need a business plan
- to pitch to investors
- to think through the overall market, your competition, your strategy, your differentiators.
The business plan for this software startup consisted of
- a quick 5 slide pitch (elevator pitch)
- a 20 slide “what makes us different” presentation
- a complete business plan running about 200 pages
- and supplementary slide decks for detailed technical presentations.
The company was founded and run by software test professionals with extensive successful track records up to senior director level working in prominent silicon valley companies and championed by an angel investment group speciallizing in test technologies and services.
Starting a company, especially in a saturated market (can you say “Wipro”?) requires a well thought out business plan that attracts investors. It just about always also requires a couple of visionaries at the helm with extensive industry knowledge.
Provide more info on your approach and I’ll be happy to give more detailed advice.
